The Gower Peninsula was the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to be designated in the UK. On Gower Rhossili has been named as one of The Times newspaper’s '20 Greatest Rural British Walks' and The Lonely Planet Guide is also a fan of the Gower Peninsula.
You could think about a walking holiday linked to one of the area’s walking festivals such as the annual Gower Walking Festival (5th–20th June 2010)
which takes in over 40 graded walks led by experienced guides who make sure you get the most from your UK walking break.
You can go ‘Walking by Bus’
on Gower to get around – maps will help you link your walks with clearly signposted routes to follow. There’s an easy way to search for the most popular walks in Swansea Bay and also to find the walk that’s perfect for you
To the east of Swansea Bay the Neath Port Talbot area also takes in part of the Brecon Beacons. Together with the forested hills and valleys that cover three quarters of the area the location is probably most famous for ‘Waterfall Country’ - where a series of dramatic waterfalls provide the backdrop for memorable walking breaks.
